Senior Accountant

Location: Cairns and Sunshine Coast (2 positions available – 1. Cairns  2. Sunshine Coast)


We are seeking a fulltime Senior Accountant with a can-do attitude and high level of technical knowledge for each of our offices. 

As the Senior Accountant, you will be required to liaise with new and existing clients to provide business advice as well as tax and accounting services. This position is for a Senior Accountant with a high technical knowledge and experience. In addition, you will assist other staff in the Accounting & Bookkeeping teams by mentoring and passing along your vast knowledge to the team.

About You.

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant to step into this role and hit the ground running. You will have an exceptionally high level of technical knowledge and be extremely proactive keeping up to date with current laws, regulations, and statutory knowledge. You will have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships. As the Senior Accountant, you will have a passion for your work and a drive that can be exemplified in your work ethic.

In addition, to be successful you will possess the following:

  • 5-7 years industry experience working within public practice
  • CPA/ CA qualified
  • Degree qualifications essential
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs essential
  • Exceptional business advisory and tax knowledge and skills
  • Ability to follow and track changes in industry trends
  • High level of leadership skills
  • Have a solutions-focused approach with the ability to problem-solve creatively
  • Ability to effectively time manage and work with competing deadlines
  • Strong drive to excel professionally, and to guide and motivate others
  • Excellent time management and ability to manage deadlines whilst under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good written, verbal and listening communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion
  • Proactive and positive attitude
  • Willing to go ‘the extra mile’ for our clients
  • Strong organisational skills

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Develop an understanding of our major clients’ needs
  • Solve client tax, accounting, and advisory needs from end to end
  • Conduct meetings with tax and business advisory clients
  • Assist staff with complicated tax and business advisory issues
  • Proactively communicate with all levels of management
  • Regular input on team performance, success, and issues
  • Convey openly on change or improvements where needed
  • Liaise with the ATO and other regulatory bodies
  • Communicate with external tax experts when required for clients
  • Maintain and update the organisations tax knowledge database
  • Approve accountants’ jobs before finalisation where complicated tax matters are involved
  • Review and implement software for the team to improve next level services
  • Have a deep understanding of business advisory concepts and how to apply them proactively to your client’s individual circumstances
